The Canadian Association of the Deaf (CAD) was honoured to receive the Vittorio Ieralla Award at the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) General Assembly held in Durban, South Africa, on July 17, 2011.

WFD Outgoing President Markku Jokinen announced that the award was given in recognition of the outstanding efforts of the CAD and the BC Deaf Community in developing the ICED 2010 Vancouver New Era Document. Many of the World Congress delegates from 71 countries and the WFD Board gave their congratulations, stating that this Document has become a vital weapon in the struggle for accessible Deaf education.

The Vittorio Ieralla Award is given only every four years, so it is indeed a great honour.
