Job Opportunity: Project Director
The Canadian Association of the Deaf – Association des Sourds du Canada has received federal funding to support a 2-year project that requires a highly skilled and very energetic Project Director. The work is related to the settlement of Deaf immigrants and refugees across Canada.
Starting date: 1 May 2017
End date: 30 March 2019
Responsibilities: This is a very demanding position that involves a broad range of responsibilities. You will:
- work together with various organizations (non-Deaf immigration organizations, Deaf service agencies, and Deaf consumer organizations) across Canada as partners in our project activities;
- conduct a needs/gaps research study and gather statistics on Deaf immigrants;
- develop and implement strategies and tools to reach “hidden” Deaf immigrants;
- partner with the various agencies to deliver better-informed services to Deaf immigrants and refugees
- produce ASL-LSQ video versions of the information;
- produce text versions to accompany the Signed videos;
- disseminate and promote these products;
- manage related website and social media activities.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in working in partnership with different kinds of organizations, including both Deaf and non-Deaf organizations.
- Proven expertise in creating easy-to-understand text and Signed video versions of complex information such as government publications; include samples (or links) in your application.
- Experience with immigration service organizations and agencies.
- Highly skilled in social media and website management.
- Research, analysis, and evaluation/survey (data collection) skills and experience.
- University degree, preferably in Canadian political science, social work, or related discipline.
- Deep understanding of Deaf culture and language, and of disability in general.
- You MUST be outgoing, gregarious, comfortable dealing with people from different countries, strong in exploring other communities.
Languages: Complete fluency in at least two of the following is required: ASL, LSQ, written English, written French.
Location: Preferably but not necessarily Ottawa.
