TAKE PART IN CANADA DAY FESTIVITIES IN THE NATION’S CAPITAL!
June 21, 2012
The National Capital Commission and its partners invite everyone to participate in Canada Day celebrations.

Activities will be held on three official sites: Parliament Hill and Major’s Hill Park in Ottawa, and Jacques-Cartier Park in Gatineau.

The NCC would like to highlight the various accessibility accommodations that will be offered on July 1st, 2012.

On Parliament Hill:
• A reserved raised platform seating area for people with special needs:
o Located on the West lawn, by Lower Drive
o This section is a raised, two-tiered platform with a ramp and is covered by a tent
o Accessible washrooms at the raised platform location will be available
• A drop-off/pick-up point will be located at the intersection of Bank St. and Wellington St. with shuttle bus service to the reserved seating area on the Hill (no parking available). If you are not using the shuttle service, you can access the reserved seating area by entering the Metcalfe St. gate to the Hill.
• Volunteers will be on site to provide assistance. Please note, the volunteers do not provide attendant care services.
• Sign language interpretation will be shown on the on-stage screens during the noon show. (ASL and LSQ)
• Wheelchair accessible portable toilets are available throughout the site.
• Induction loop system for those who are hard of hearing will be available at the platform (Visa, Master card number, other Credit card or Driver’s License will be required).

Please note that space on the raised platform is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to construction on Parliament Hill, beginning this year the morning activities (flag raising and Changing the Guard ceremony) will take place on the East lawn as opposed to the West.

At Major’s Hill Park and Jacques-Cartier Park:
• Drop-off point (no parking available on site);
• Reserved area on the lawn for those using mobility devices to enjoy the on-stage performances;
• Accessible portable toilets;
• Induction loop system for those who are hard of hearing will be available at the lost children tent (Visa, MasterCard number, other credit card or Driver’s License will be required).

Please be advised that on July 1st many streets will be closed to vehicular traffic. We encourage you to plan your day in advance and consult the street closure map at www.canadaday.gc.ca in the days leading up to Canada Day.

Participants are invited to take advantage of accessible public transit. For details and information on accessible transit please visit www.octranspo.com / www.sto.ca.
