May 28, 2011
Position: e-Communications Officer
Start Date: June 20, 2011
Hourly Wage: $ 10.25/hr
As per Canada Summer Jobs requirements, all applicants must be participating in and be returning to fulltime studies in the autumn. Responsibilities:
Deaf people have probably been the fastest community to latch on to portable wireless communication devices, because these devices help them to overcome the communications barriers that they face in every aspect of society. But no examination has been done in Canada to find out what types of social media they are using, and for what purposes, or even which devices they prefer and for what reasons. The CAD-ASC needs this kind of information in order to meet the preferences of our constituency.
Our student employee will construct a simple quiz for posting on our website and for distribution through our email and social media channels, hopefully receiving 100 responses from Deaf individuals across the country. The student will also analyze how other deaf organizations are making use of social media, and use this knowledge to make recommendations as to how we can expand our existing communication using a broader base of tools.
The final phase of this project will be to prepare promotional and informational materials on a variety of subjects using various media to heighten the visibility of our organization
