CAD-ASC TO PROMOTE IMPORTANCE OF RESP TO DEAF CANADIANS
The Canadian Association of the Deaf – Association des Sourds du Canada is pleased to announce approval of funding for our new project, “Promoting and Encouraging Awareness of Education Savings within the Deaf community”.
With today’s high post-secondary education costs and skyrocketing tuition rates, the Canadian Association of the Deaf – Association des Sourds du Canada has a goal to educate Deaf Canadians and their families about the importance and advantages of a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP).
This project is made available to any Deaf parents who have hearing or Deaf children and hearing parents with Deaf children. – Information kits and video format in ASL and LSQ will be distributed to Deaf organizations and service agencies to promote about the importance of saving for your child’s future. – Workshops to educate about the benefits of RESP will be provided in at least 14 Canadian cities.
Through the National Project Coordinator, 9 local advisors will be hired on a part-time basis to assist with workshops, delivery of information kits, and serve as liaison between potential clients and financial institutions.
Local advisors to be selected in Fall 2007 will be responsible for providing awareness to financial institutions of the needs of Deaf clients, helping families of Deaf children and Deaf parents of hearing children to access financial institutions, and to understand the benefits of education savings, and its process.
This project was made possible with funding support from the Office of Learning Technologies, Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.
