CAD-ASC is please to share the final report from the Accessibility project. This project was funded by the Government of Canada to undertake research on six areas of accessibility barriers: emergency services, employment services, built environment, communications, technologies, and indigenous accessibility. Six committees were established to analyze and identify barriers and give recommendations to improve federal accessibility policies to meet the needs of the Deaf/Deafblind community.

The intent and purpose of the project is to present our findings and develop sets of recommendations from the Deaf community of all backgrounds in Canada to the federal government. Our aim was to review and strengthen the national standards including employment, emergency preparedness, built environment, Indigenous accessibility, technologies, and communications considering the passage of the Accessible Canada Act, 2019 (ACA).

This project began in 2020 and took over three years in the making.  We saw the establishment of six committees of dedicated Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard-of-Hearing and Deaf and Disabled volunteers across the nations to offer over 62 recommendations to the federal government while developing the standards under the ACA. CAD-ASC looks forward to continuing the important work with the Accessibility Standards Canada and the federal government with research, consultation and clarity to ensure that we build a barrier-free Canada by 2040.
