The Canadian Association of the Deaf – Association des Sourds du Canada (CAD-ASC) is pleased to announce the release of its toolkit –“Know and Achieve your Human Rights: The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and its Optional Protocol.”

The purpose of this toolkit is to introduce Canadians with disabilities to the international human rights mechanisms, and to the processes of monitoring and implementation of the CRPD. It aims to empower them to become effective advocates for meaningful changes to improve the human rights of all persons with disabilities, including Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and Hard of Hearing Canadians.

The development of the toolkit was steered by a Leadership Team consisting of six partner organizations facilitated by CAD-ASC: Council of Canadians with Disabilities, Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work, ARCH Disability Law, DisAbled Women’s Network, and B.C. Aboriginal Network on Disability Society.
The toolkit includes brochures, sample complaint forms, fact sheets, accessible and graphic design versions of our reports, and video versions in ASL and LSQ. Prior to its release to the general public, the materials of this toolkit were presented at workshops organized throughout Canada.

This project was funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Office of Disability Issues, Employment and Social Development Canada. We are very grateful for their support.
